Stadium decision reflects deep-rooted flaws

We can only pat government on the back for realising the risks inherent in using the rickety Kamuzu Stadium after it was established that cracks had developed in some stands of the facility.

However, we wonder why the decision was made at the eleventh hour ahead of the Presidential Cup finals between Moyale Barracks and Bullets FC. Why safety issues were not considered when the decision to hold the match at the stadium was being made? Indeed, was it not in 2009 when Fifa warned that the stadium is a potential death trap?

With such sloppy decision making, does it surprise anybody that we are very much a backwater in sports when others in the region are making strides?
