Chanco student’s demands realistic

Dear Editor,

The issues at Chancellor College and Polytechnic seem simple. For me, the student’s demands are justified. Fees hike for self-sponsored students rose unrealistically by 150 percent. For those born with a silver spoon in their mouths, this is not an issue, but for the majority poor, it is a tall order. This appears like a calculated move to force these less privileged out of college. Let me appeal to the authorities to consider a special fund for self-sponsored students who are needy.

On Dedza border post Escom transformer

Dear Editor,

It is now close to two months since the Dedza border post Escom transformer blew off. Escom came and took it away with the intention of repairing it. However, nothing seems to be happening.

On political dress at funerals

Dear Editor,

I have read news reports on what happened at Judge Joseph Manyungwa’s funeral recently. I read the story with interest because I experienced the same thing at the burial of the late Anthony Livuza, who was principal secretary in the Ministry of Information.

Is government experimenting with people?

Dear Editor,

I would like to contribute to the current pre-budget consultations, especially on the economy.

Lesson from E-Wallet 2012

Dear Editor,

In view of last year’s E-Wallet, we may find that there were still some shortfalls which needed to be ironed out. We can discover that some categories are not well represented, such as the fusing of dancing and music skills.

On Dedza,Umbwi secondary schools feud

Dear Editor,

My family and I sincerely thank Solomon Mbota of Zomba for his concern regarding the feud between Dedza and Umbwi secondary schools as published in The Nation last week. We are victims of this feud in that we lost our dear, brilliant Form Three student last year.

Rev. Chakwera and the Church’s reaction

Dear Editor,

I would like to express my dismay at how some quarters of the Christian religion have reacted to Rev. Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s interest in politics. The Bible has a number of verses supporting Christians taking up political leadership.

Mzimba Depot in pathetic shape

Dear Editor,

Allow me to express my shock over the dilapidated state of Mzimba Bus Depot. Despite serving the largest district in the country, the depot is a sorry sight.

I feel ashamed when friends from other districts where depots are in good shape, such as Balaka, Zomba and Thyolo, visit us.

James Nyondo and fertiliser commodities

Dear Editor,

Listening to James Nyondo, president of National Salvation Front (Nasaf), in an interview with a local radio last week, one would think he is the man to lead the country come 2014. Nyondo gives an impression that he is God-fearing, has love for his country and not afraid to engage in a debate.

Military base need protection

Dear Editor,

Let me start by reminding you about the biblical story of King Hezekiah. He was a God-fearing man who got healed from a boil after prayer.

As he was celebrating his recovery, he received visitors from the King of Babylon. Hezekiah showed the visitors almost everything in the city, but the biggest mistake was showing the Babylonians his military camp where secret weapons were kept. God told him that he should not have shown them military weapons, because they would return and attack them.
