The Students Christian Organisation of Malawi (SCOM), Mzuzu Chapter, on Monday presented a certificate of excellence to Masambiro Private Secondary School Scom treasurer Penelope Mbewe for a job well done.
According to Scom associate and patron for the Mzuzu Chapter, Pastor Gracious Nkhata, Mbewe was outstanding in keeping the association’s funds.
"News has been making rounds day and night everywhere that someone has swindled money for the church, government or a company, but Mbewe stood firm with her God, keeping the Masambiro Private Secondary School Scom funds of over K10 000 (about $40) intact for close to six months now," said Nkhata.
Scom also honoured other students for their achievements in various areas such as academic excellence.
The awards come a week before the students begin writing their Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) Examinations.
Speaking as guest of honour at the function, director of Chimaliro Private Secondary School Pastor Frazer Mkandawire said the gesture would encourage the students to lead prayerful lives and become responsible citizens of the country.
"Breaking God’s commandments has landed many in trouble and we expect you to live lives of honesty wherever you will be working after leaving school," said Mkandawire.
