One of the fundamental characteristics of an effective Christian life is walking in love which is the very nature of God.
Â
The love of God changes many things not only in your life but also other people’s lives and this is why every Christian is supposed to love others, even those who hate you.
This is the very life which Jesus lived while on earth. No wonder, in Matthew 5 v 44 - 45, Christ teaches us to love one another and the scripture says; ‘’But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you.’’
"That you may be children of your father which is in heaven: For he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.’’
This verse tells us that when we show the love of God to others, even if they don’t appreciate it, we fulfil the nature of God which is in us. You need to realise that regardless of how many times people wrong you, the nature of God remains in you if you are a child of God and you need to persist in manifesting it. Walking in love will enable you to display the character of God and this is the character which affects and changes others.
In Ephesians 5 v 1 -2, the bible says; ‘’Be yea therefore followers of God as dear children and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor’’.
The word of God shows us here that when you walk in love, you follow after God. For instance, since God forgives, you also forgive others through his love working in you. This is why if you are a Christian, you are not supposed to have enemies and hold grudges against anybody. The Love of God surpasses human understanding and it compels you to love anybody unconditionally.
It is God’s love which brought us salvation. It is God’s love which redeemed us and if you are a born again Christian, you need to exercise the same love, especially to those who are not yet saved.
