1 John 4:7

The other time we discussed the false teaching that states that when we believe in Christ for our salvation (got born again) we become exactly like God.

I also indicated that one of the verses that are used to back up this teaching is 1 John 4:7 which says: "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God"

Now, does this verse teach that we are God? Absolutely not! "Born of God" in the verse does not mean that we have become God rather it means that we have become God’s children. The author of 1 John who is Apostle John also wrote the Gospel according to John and in John 1:12, 13 he describes better what to he means by the term ‘born of God’.

"But to all who received him (Jesus), who believed his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God."

This is what it means to be born of God. We become God’s children (and not God). May you have a week full of sound doctrine and God’s grace.
