‘Malawi’s urban music growing’
A producer, Yesaya Nkhwazi Junior, has described the growth of urban music in Malawi as amazing, given that such music is relatively new in Malawi.
“For a country that only started to accept urban music 10 years ago, it means we are doing well. For instance, artists are getting record deals, endorsement deals and selling albums. I believe if more artists, labels or management companies work together on certain projects, we can grow our industry,” said the musician-cum-producer.
Yesaya, who claimed is particular about his creative freedom and finds working independently more satisfying, has produced songs for some of the country’s leading urban music artists such as Maskal, Young Kay and Barry One.
According to Yesaya, being engaged in different entertainment circles, especially when playing an active role, is rather thrilling.
Yesaya is the owner of Near Perfect Studio in Nkolokosa Blantyre. He will release his mix-tape So Last Year 2.0 on February 14 and album Chiphadzuwa this year—Mana.
