Bangwe resident and businessperson Mike Chitenje has urged the Mudzi Transformation Trust (MTT) to change its approach in order to benefit more people.

Chitenje, calling himself a concerned citizen said while the trust’s patron President Joyce Banda’s idea is good, the concept cannot function effectively because it only benefits few people thereby sowing seeds of mistrust and jealous among the public.

“It is a good move, but you will find that only a few people benefit and this leads to skepticism and distrust among people.

“Perhaps what they need to do is to provide the people with only iron sheets other than build them houses. In so doing, they will be able to reach out to many people in the community,” said Chitenje who was accompanied by five other residents from Bangwe.

But the trust’s executive director Macward Themba said the initiative is still in a pilot stage and some things will be changed.

“This is just a pilot stage to see negatives and positives. After the current phase we will have a review to see which areas we can improve on.

“But such ideas are welcome. We are open to views from the public,” he said.
