‘Teveta to bridge gaps’
The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) has said it will continue to tailor its training programmes to uplift the lives of vulnerable households in the country, thereby bridging the prevailing inequality gaps among Malawians.
Teveta acting executive director Wilson Makulumiza-Nkhoma said this in Mponela, Dowa last week when he closed a three-day induction training for over 30 master craft persons drawn from Mchinji, Dowa and Kasungu.
The training course is under Teveta’s Vocational Skills Training Project for Vulnerable Young People (VSTP-VYP) which is funded by the National Aid Commission (Nac) to the tune of K460 million.
“It should be noted that Teveta training, especially under the informal sector has proved to have a lot of impact in changing the lives of the youth and their vulnerable households and thereby uplifting the lives of the ultra-poor,” said Nkhoma.
Nkhoma said under the programme, three sets of districts are targeted at a time in each region for effective monitoring and assessment.
The training brought together craftsmen and women in saloon, tailoring, carpentry and joinery, tinsmithing, electrical wiring, among others.
The graduates are expected to pass on the skills obtained to other vulnerable youths in their respective districts.
