‘Women should take leadership as calling’

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) deputy secretary general Grace Chiumia and former People’s Party (PP) director of foreign affairs Olipa Chiluba have called on female candidates in the forthcoming elections to take leadership as calling.

Speaking in an interview at Sunbird Mzuzu where NGO-Gender Coordination Network held a 50:50 campaign training for aspiring female MPs, Chiumia said the aspirants have to show that they can serve the people once elected into positions.

She asked the aspirants to embark on issue-based campaign and to support each other to win the electorate.

Chiumia, who is DPP shadow MP for Nkhata Bay West Constituency, said women should bring issues that will help them develop the country and lives of people.

Chiluba, an independent candidate for Mzimba North East Constituency, said female aspirants should live up to their promises when they get into power.

She said it is only when they deliver that people will continue trusting them.

“I want to ensure that meaningful development comes to Mzimba North East Constituency when I get into Parliament,” said Chiluba.
