The development comes after Nyirongo revealed that he has left DPP and joined the Alliance for Democracy (Aford).

Before joining Aford, Nyirongo claimed that he was DPP’s senior youth cadet for the North.

He was suspended alongside 19 others in February this year for walking out of a meeting convened by Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe and Deputy Minister of Defence Jappie Mhango in Mzuzu.

However, Sanga told The Nation on Monday that Nyirongo has never been a DPP member.

He said: “We are surprised that he is claiming to have been a DPP member. We do not have a Nyirongo in our party. I just know him as a businessperson, not as a DPP member.”

However, Nyirongo said he is surprised at the governor’s remarks, saying that his name was on the list of suspended DPP youth cadets whose names appeared in the media.

He said: “I am surprised with the governor’s remark, I was a full member. How come my name was aired among the list of suspended youth cadets on Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation [MBC]? Ask him.” n
