10 Bangladeshis in for illegal entry

Police in Mzimba have arrested 10 Bangladeshis for entering the country illegally.

In an interview, Mzimba Police Station deputy spokesperson John Nyirongo said they have also arrested two Malawians for aiding the illegal immigrants.

He said the 10 were arrested on Sunday at Raiply Trading Centre in the district.

Said Nyirongo: “Officers were manning the Raiply Roadblock when they were tipped that a motor vehicle registration KK 8692 was carrying illegal immigrants from Karonga heading towards Lilongwe.

“So, officers searched the vehicle and noticed that it carried bananas and 10 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and one Malawian.”

He said police arrested the immigrants and the Malawian while the driver escaped.

Meanwhile, police say the suspects will appear in court to answer their relevant charges.

Recently, illegal immigrants have been on the rise in the country.
