A 14 year old boy has drowned in Chimwankhunda dam in Blantyre where he went to swim with his friends.
Blantyre assistant police publicist Andrew Mayawo identified the deceased as Nathan Mvula who was a standard 7 learner at Mlambalala primary school.
Mayawo said the incident happened last Saturday evening.
“Mvula was swimming with his friends at the dam and he suddenly disappeared. After notice his absence; his cousin who was also there rushed home and reported matter.
The parents notified the police and together with surrounding members of the community we launched a search and recovered the dead body,” explained Mayawo.
He said post-mortem at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital revealed that Mvula died due to suffocation.
Mayawo has since advised parents to properly look after their children to avoid such incidents.
He said this year alone two kids have drowned in the dam.
Nathan Mvula was from Engalaweni village in the area of Inkosi ya Makosi Mbelwa in Mzimba.
