Chiradzulu Police Detective Inspector Kennedy Kaufulu told Nation Online the suspect, Zakaliya Chawanda, who has a hawker and plies his trade at Shire Market, near Chiradzulu District Hospital was on Tuesday this week around 11 O’clock in the morning allegedly called the teenager (name withheld) who comes from Makanani Village, T/A Mpama in the district to enter his shop where he started coaxing him for sex in exchange of a bun and K100.

arrest“Chawanda told the victim to lie down and fold his leg tightly between the upper part and the lower part (thigh) of the leg to enable him insert his member properly and that he might find the friction. This annoyed the victim to shrug off the suspect’s offer that forcibly grabbed the boy and started the illegal act amid the boy’s protests,” said Kaufulu.

Kaufulu further said the suspect was interrupted by some customers who had gone to the shop to buy some items.

“Upon hearing strange noise from the shop, the customers shouted for help, hence, the suspect’s subsequent arrest,” he said.

The accused will appear in court soon to answer an offence of indecent assault for a boy under the age of 13 which is contrary to section 155 of the Penal Code and attracts a maximum sentence of 7 years.
