15 arrested for planning to vandalise school

Plice in Mchinji on Wednesday arrested 15 students for allegedly planning to vandalise school property.

Chimteka Community Day Secondary School (CDSS)head teacher Clement Mponda told Malawi News Agency (Mana) that at around 1 am on Wednesday. he was tipped off that a group of angry students plotted to destroy the school property.

“I was tipped off by some students that their friends had planned to destroy school property. This prompted me to call police from Kamwendo Trading Centre who immediately came and have so far arrested some of the students,” he said.

Meanwhile, the arrested students are being held at Kamwendo Police Unit for questioning.

Mchinji Police spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino confirmed the development, but asked for more time for investigations.

This could have been the second time for the school to be vandalised by the students within three months.

Between January and March this year, three CDSSs in Mchinji; Chimteka, Kholoni, Kochirira, and Guilleme

Private School have been vandalised following student riots.n
