17 UK investors in town
Prospective British investors arrived in Malawi yesterday on a five-day scheduled investment mission.
The investors, 17 in total, are on a follow-up mission to the meetings they had with Minister of Industry and Trade Joseph Mwanamvekha in London last July ahead of the Global African Investment Summit scheduled for December 1 and 2 2015.
In an interview on arrival in Lilongwe on Monday, Global African Investment sales director Victor Cruz said the United Kingdom (UK) investors are keen to bring foreign direct investment (FDI) into Malawi.
He said during the December summit, Malawi will be accorded an opportunity to showcase its bankable projects in agriculture, energy and information and communications technology (ICT), among others.
Speaking upon arrival, one of the investors, Paulo Fernandes from Mott MacDonald—a global management, engineering and development consultancy company, hailed Malawi’s geographical location before stating that their company is interested to invest in various infrastructure projects.
Other companies that are represented in the delegation include PW Mining International, a British-owned firm which has a diversified business interests, Well and Able Company interested in residential and property development, Aggreko Company that specialises in provision of off-grid interim supply of electricity and a construction company called Dawnus.
In June this year, Malawi also held an investment forum in Lilongwe.
