Former Flames mentor Kinnah Phiri is expected to start a new lease of life at Mbeya City Council Football Club after the Tanzanian outfit appointed him coach.
Kinnah, who has signed a two-year contract, replaces Abdul Mingange, who has left the club due to family problems, according to the club’s general secretary Emmanuel Kimbe.
“He is expected to start work immediately,” said Kimbe.

Kimbe said one of the tasks that Phiri has, is to ensure the team that has not been doing well in the national league, the Vodacom Premier League, survives relegation.
“We believe this is possible due to the potential that he has as a great coach,” he said.
Kinnah was not available for comment as he was still in Tanzania.
But the development means the coach will leave Mzuzu University (Mzuni) where he was assisting the club on part time basis.
Mzuni chairman Albert Harawa said he had heard about the Mbeya City FC interests in Kinnah from the coach.
“We are not surprised. Kinnah is a high-profile coach with international repute. I talked to him and he confirmed that they are indeed interested in him. He will be back from Tanzania on Monday and he will tell us his position,” Harawa said.
“But as of now he still has a contract with us up to June. However, the agreement is flexible. If he wants to leave he can do so freely or if we want to terminate the contract, we are also free to do so without any problems.”
Mbeya City Council FC was established in 2011 in Mbeya City which is in the Southern Highlands of southwest Tanzania.
The outfit, also known as Green City Boys, Purple Tigers and Jacaranda Warriors, plays at Sokoine Stadium.
They are on position nine in the league. n
