2 Mzuzu City staff die in road accident
Two Mzuzu City Council (MCC) employees died in a road accident in the city on Monday when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned.
MCC spokesperson McDonald Gondwe on Monday confirmed the deaths of Joseph Ndlovu and Steven Nyirenda who were working in the Public Works Department.
He said the two and five other employees were on their way from Kaning’ina Township in the city where they had gone to remove national flag poles when they met their fate.
Gondwe said all the seven sustained injuries, but the two died at Mzuzu Central Hospital.
“We are saddened by the death of the two who died while on duty. It is a big blow to the council,” he said.
Gondwe said MCC was working with police to establish the cause of the accident.
Mzuzu Police Station deputy spokesperson Paul Tembo also confirmed the deaths, but asked for more time before commenting on the matter.
Three weeks ago, Luwinga Ward councillor Khumbo Harawa died in another road accident at Ekwendeni in Mzimba. n
