20 African urban gospel artists collaborate

Malawian urban gospel artists David Kalirani, KBG, Samuel and C Scripture have collaborated with artists from the continent in an album titled We are One addressing problems in Africa such as xenophobia and Ebola. The song debuted on May 25.
Other artists that have been featured in the album include Genirol & Malcom (Botswana), Kris (Kenya), Mano Juvane (Mozambique), Limo Blaze (Nigeria), Phemy (Nigeria), Fizzikal (Nigeria), Blaq Nubon (South Africa), LandMaQ (South Africa), G stana (Tanzania), Elandre (Tanzania), Ruyonga (Uganda), Jo-Z J, Prychi (Zambia), Sobre (Zambia), Abel Chungu (Zambia) and Courtney Antipas (Zimbabwe).
The initiative, which was conceived by Grant Munatsi from Zambia, a co-owner of SoliDeoGloria Music Group and Bob Phondo, a Malawian based in Zambia who is president of Letswai Record Label and Artist Management Firm, was a response to the xenophobic violence recently experienced in South Africa.
Phondo, who is spearheading the project, said they wanted to raise awareness on African unity; hence, debuting the album on Africa Day.
“The artists worked on a short music project to inspire unity among Africans given the recent xenophobic attacks experienced in South Africa. The hope being that the music will spark interest and conversation on the issue of African unity resulting in information being further disseminated among different people of different classes in different countries,” said Phondo.
