The Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) has released names of 17 golfers to go into camp in preparation for Zone VI Games in South Africa in April.

According to GUoM secretary Hudson Kantwanje, training was scheduled to start yesterday in Lilongwe under national coach Chris Kachiguma and team manager Clement Chilingulo.

“This is first of the two series of trainings the team will undergo. The best nine players will make the final team to go to South Africa,” said Kantwanje.

This year’s competition will be played at the Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate, Stellenbosch, Boland, Cape Provience from April 14-17 2014.

Players that have been called for camp are Adam Sailesi, Victor Kachepatsonga, Gift Landisi, Gabriel Kambalame, Roger Mapepa, Texon Banda, Charles Kambalame, George Chisambo, Adack Sailesi, Shycal Nthakomwa and Gabriel Kambale (Lilongwe Golf Club); Kondwani Mphula and Bregger Kaingwe (Kasasa Golf Club); Paul Chidale, Dingaan Chirwa and junior golfer Simon Moses (Blantyre Sports Club). Country Club Limbe (CCL) has contributed Stanford Mayuni and Chimwemwe Banda while Mzuzu Golf Club has Yasin Phiri.

Zone VI Games are held every year and hosted by member countries. Last year, Malawi finished fourth when Namibia hosted the competition. South Africa often dominate the 10-country competition.
