20 new pastors sent out to preach salvation

Discipline, hard work and devotion to the studying and preaching of Christ-centred gospel has been emphasised as one of the attributes clerics should have if they are to win souls to Christ.

Vice-principal for the Zomba Theological College (ZTC) Reverend Hastings Abale Phiri made the call last Thursday during a ceremony the college hosted at Zomba CCAP aimed at sending out 20 ordinands from the synods of Blantyre and Livingstonia.

Phiri said people who want to preach the gospel needs to have a passion to handle the word of God appropriately.

He cited an example that Jesus spent His time training the disciples into active ministry, a development that led to the growth of the church after He ascended into heaven.

“People who are not conversant with the theology of the word of God are likely to make mistakes in the interpretations and delivery of the gospel,” said Phiri.

He said he has confidence that the ordinands will discharge their duties competently because apart from being trained in preaching, they have also been equipped with church administration skills.

One of the ordinands, Chifundo Chibaya, who has been posted to Blantyre Synod’s Chingale Presbytery, defined the training at the institution as crucial to his ministry.

“We have also been trained in counselling people on different issues,” said Chibaya.n
