Information The Nation has seen shows that eight babies were born on Christmas Day at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe, a referral centre for the Central Region and parts of the Northern Region.

The statistics also indicate that 78 babies were born in the Northern Region at district hospitals in Chitipa, Karonga, Rumphi, Mzimba and Nkhata Bay.

In the Southern and Eastern regions, over 100 babies were reported born on Christmas.

However, information for the other districts in the Central Region was yet to be consolidated.

Mwansambo said MoH welcomes babies born on Christmas as they are special.

He said the babies were born healthy and their mothers were in high spirits.

The statistics showed that more male babies were born on this year’s Christmas Day. n

  1. Please someone slow this process down. Too many babies that we cannot afford or provide for. Please, please. Even you donors, focus on issues that will really make a difference. Population control must be top of the list surely. You have helped reduce child mortality rates, but have not redressed the balance with measures to lower birth rates. Please please help!
