2017 Afcon draw today

The draw for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations will be held today at Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

This will be the 31st edition of the tournament and the qualifying rounds are scheduled to start in June this year.

Malawi_afconFootball Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu and general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda, who are in Cairo for the 39th CAF Congress, are expected to attend the draw.

According to FAM competitions officer Gomezgani Zakazaka, the qualifiers are expected to be played between June 8 this year and September 6 next year.

Apart from the draw, Algeria, Gabon or Ghana will be chosen to take over as hosts of continental showcase replacing war-torn Libya.

The Flames have only qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations twice [in 1984 and 2010] and have never made it past the group stages.
