Khalil-Ahmed Tayub is a very good example of enterprising young people as he has taken advantage of the country’s technological advancement to set up a company selling top of the range cellphones, laptops and television sets.

The company situated in the Sana Complex shopping mall in Lilongwe is known as Katalyst Connections.

Tayub, who is married with one child, studied at Bishop Mackenzie High School before enrolling at Gateway University in the United Kingdom where he graduated with a degree in Business Management in 2008.

Upon his return to Malawi, Tayub joined his family in running the Xerographic Company and later worked at Transglobe Limited.

The experience Tayub got after four years of service at Xerographics and Transglobe enabled him to set up his own electronic equipment company which is now very popular in Lilongwe.

“I am very passionate about phones; hence, my decision to open Katalyst Connections. In my shop, there are laptops, tablets, desktops, television sets, car radios, coffee machines and electronic cigarette which help people to stop smoking and game consoles,” he said.

As a sign that business is booming, Tayub has also opened a furniture shop Katalyst Investments in Area 3 in Lilongwe, which sells top of the range furniture imported from China.

The shop stocks office furniture, bedroom furniture and garden furniture good enough to make any home or office complete.

“I have six employees currently and I plan to open more shops in Limbe, Blantyre, Mzuzu in the near future. I am enjoying business here. If one buys a laptop in my shop, he gets a free lap top bag. If one buys a phone I assist them with all important information on internet connections and whattsup,” said Tayub.

The 27-year-old says he puts emphasis on pricing his products competitively because most Malawians do not have disposable income.

“Katalysts Investments and Katalysts Connections are here to stay because through entrepreneurship, we can help the country move forward economically. With hard work who knows one day I will be employing over 50 people; hence; reducing unemployment,” said Tayub.
