Three prospective buyers have submitted their bids to the Malawi Government for the purchase of the presidential jet which the Joyce Banda administration has put up for sale as part of cost-cutting measures.

The Office  of the President and Cabinet (OPC) said on Wednesday, the bidders are from USA, South Africa and Virgin Islands. OPC said there are no local bidders to buy the Dassault Falcon 900EX, built in 1998 and has a capacity for 14 passengers.

OPC Principal Secretary (administration) Clement Chinthu-Phiri said the bids are being evaluated.

“After being evaluated, we will come up with full information,” he said.

Minister  of  Information and Civic  Education Moses Kunkuyu on Wednesday said the internal procurement committee overseeing the sale of the jet is yet to meet and report to Cabinet on the bids.

Kunkuyu said the bids would be opened and offers read out in the presence of interested buyers or their representatives and any member of the public when the plane flies back from France where it has gone for checks.

Companies that have submitted their bids are Bohnox Enterprise Limited from the British Virgin Islands, General Aviation Services from USA and African Dune Investments from South Africa, said Kunkuyu.
