Kasungu Police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda identified the suspects as Saad Kachala (42), Majid Dinala (32) and Frank Banda (31).

Kaunda said in an interview on Tuesday the police received a tip-off that a vehicle carrying fertiliser was going towards Chimaliro area which is closer to the Zambia border.

He said the police then mounted a roadblock along the Nkhamenya-Chimaliro Road.

“The police found 152 bags of subsidised fertiliser inside the vehicle. The suspects failed to explain where they got the fertiliser from and also failed to produce supporting documents,” said Kaunda.

He said the suspects have been charged with being found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen.
