30 inmates graduate in life skills

Youth Coalition for Consolidation of Democracy has trained 30 inmates from Chikwawa Prison in life skills course for behavioural change.

Speaking on Friday at Chikwawa Prison, the organisation’s executive director Francis Folley said the training sought to reform the inmates.

“We believe these life skills lessons will help the inmates reintegrate into society when they finally go out of prison,” he said.

Folley said each inmate will be given K60 000 upon their release as a starter-pack.

A female inmate Linley Mkomadzinja said she was excited to hone new life skills.

“We will not go back to crime,” she said.

Chikwawa Prison officer Esther Chima commended the organisation for the training programme.

The programme was funded by Switzerland-based Pamodzi Tingathe Association.
