4 qualify for L’ Burg Sports darts

Four players will battle it out in the finals of L’S Burg Sports Premier Singles Darts Tourney to be held on March 26 at L’ Burg Sports and Leisure Zone.

James Mbando of Capital Glass, Marcel Kasambara of Engineers Battalion, Charles Zinganyama of Capital Glass and Oswin Banda of Combat Support Battalion, qualified after play-offs held by Lilongwe and Districts Darts League (LDDL) on Sunday.

Simon Kaonga (Engineers Battalion), Overton Mbale (Hazards), Thom Kachali and German Singini (both from Capital Glass) failed to make it.

LDDL chairperson Joe Zangazanga expressed satisfaction with the talent on display.

“We watched some great darts. I was reminded of the good old days, the days of Andrew Nankwenya and Doubt Hamdan who were very skilled players in the history of Malawi darts. I cannot wait for the finals,” said Zangazanga.

He also thanked L’S Burg Sports and Leisure Zone management for the continued sponsorship of the four-month tournament.

“They are contributing a lot towards the growth of the sport of darts in the region. We really are appreciative,” said Zangazanga.

Meanwhile, defending champion Mbando, a former national team player, expressed optimism of rataining the title.

“The competition is tough, but I will make it,” he said.

The tournament is sponsored to the tune of K350 000 and the champion will receive K80 000, a green jacket and a trophy.

The runner-up will receive K60 000 and a trophy. Third and fourth-placed players will pocket K40 000 and K20 000 respectively. n
