The sisters are Tereza Chapola, Margaret Bwaliyala, Maria Mtepeka and Martha Kaipa. The Sacramentine congregation was founded by Gertrude Comensoli of Belgarmo, Italy.
Speaking when he presided over the celebrations, bishop Stima commended various congregations, in particular the Sacramentines, for playing a big role in the growth of the church.
“I am quite aware that you are engaged in several projects which include early childhood development, home craft and nutrition activities, apart from working in the health sector,” Stima said.
He said such activities do not only increase the Catholic Church’s visibility, but also contributes towards national development by complementing government in such efforts.
Stima particularly observed that the Sacramentine nuns have over the years been complementing the teaching of the catechism through deepening of Eucharistic celebrations and benediction.
Order of Sacramentine Council delegate to Malawi, Sr. Ellen Matchado said the silver jubilee celebrations were a symbol of growth of the congregation. She called on more young girls to join sisterhood, adding that serving the Lord was rewarding.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, Sr. Mtepeka thanked family members and the entire church for their prayers and spiritual guidance, which she said had contributed to their long service in sisterhood.
In Mangochi Diocese Sacramentine Sisters work at Namwera, Namalaka, Ulongwe and Nankhwali parishes. Some members of the congregation serve in Ntcheu under Dedza Diocese, Kenya and Italy.
