Sulom general secretary Williams Banda confirmed the development in an interview.

“The nomination closed on Friday. We wish the four candidates all the best,” he said.

The four will battle it out at the Sulom Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Mangochi on September 11.

The position fell vacant following the firing of Zakaria Nyirenda on disciplinary grounds.

The former vice-general secretary was relieved of his duties after being found guilty of abuse of office and putting Sulom into disrepute when he failed to remit gate revenue to Bullets and Silver during their first round encounter.

A Sulom disciplinary committee recommended that Nyirenda be removed from his position although the former Masters Security general secretary promised to pay back K2.6 million.

Initially, Sulom announced it would not hold the AGM due to financial problems, however the league runners have bowed down to pressure from clubs to hold the indaba.

A notice from Sulom to its affiliates, dated August 9, states that the AGM would be held on September 11 at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.

The   notice reads in part: “Pursuant with Article 39 as read with Article 26 of the Sulom Constitution, notice is hereby given of the annual general meeting.

“The AGM will be held with strict observation of Covid-19 preventive measures.”
