Mwanza first grade magistrate’s court last Friday sentenced 32 year-old man to 4 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for theft.

The court heard that the convict McDonald Mbendera during the month of September 2016 at Mchotseni village stole two ATM Cards belonging to his girlfriend Mercerina Magombo and used them to withdraw cash amounting to K507, 000.

When Magombo discovered that her cards from Standard Bank and National Bank respectively were missing she reported the matter to Mwanza police station.

According to Mwanza Police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda, Mbendera was arrested on October 17, 2016 following investigations. He was found with the two cards.

“On October 21 he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

However, first grade magistrate Ranwell Mangazi found him guilty after state prosecutor Joshua Chirambo paraded four witnesses,” said Kaunda.

He is from Nampale village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kawinga in Machinga.

Still in the same court, 18 year-old man has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.

The court heard that Charles Joseph during the night of September 1, 2016 at Masokosa village, broke into the house of Patrick Benala and stole various household items valued at K180, 000.

Mangazi found him guilty and sentenced him last Thursday.
