About 500 members of the People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) in the Central Region have dumped the party and joined the Chipani cha Pfuko (CCP).

The 500 new members were welcomed into the party by (CCP) acting president Davis Katsonga at the Lilongwe ADD Hall in Lilongwe at the weekend.
Speaking after joining the party former PPM Central Region director Frackson Kanjere said they wanted to face new challenges in another party.
“We have joined CCP because of frustrations and we want to start a new lease of life CCP. In PPM, we were normally not consulted when the party was undertaking some important activities and this is what has made us to look for a new lease of life somewhere,” said Kanjere.
The group dismissed allegations that they have been bought.
Katsonga said he has no grudge with his brother despite the fact that they hold different party ideologies.
Mark Katsonga is the president of PPM.
“This means that as a party, we are making inroads in the region. CCP is not a small party and that is why other people have started copying our ideas,” he said.
Mark, while saying that he does not normally comment on issues to do with his brother, said his party has not suffered with the defections.
“If people want to get out of the problems being faced in the country, let them join our party,” said Mark.
He said the tour his party recently organised around the country has shown that people are happy with PPM ideologies.
“What we have seen on our tour is that people are happy with our ideologies,” said Mark.
