About 600 households in Nkhata Bay on Saturday received a donation of 7 500 kilogrammes of maize from former Nkhata Bay Central parliamentarian Symon Vuwa Kaunda.

Speaking at Thoto in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mkumbira, Kaunda said he was shocked to learn that people had been affected by hunger, hence his coming in to mitigate the impact.

“The Bible as well as the Qur’an teaches us to give. Givers are later blessed. Let us emulate the same. As you know, a hungry family cannot be productive, hence giving them food makes them healthy and productive not only to their families but the nation at large,” said Kaunda.

Group Village Head (GVH) Khoza thanked Kaunda for the donation which he said was timely, and called him a “good Samaritan.”

He appealed to well-wishers to emulate Kaunda’s example in reaching them with support, taking in account that the area is hard to reach. He said most people prefer assisting those that can easily reached.

Thoto lies along the Nkhata Bay-Usisya hills, rendering it one of the most remote and hard-to-reach areas in the district.

Boats are the only means of transport to the area.
