7 teams tussle in the North Presidential Cup

Seven teams will compete for the North 2016 Presidential Football Cup which is scheduled to kick off this Saturday.

The teams are Kaporo Stars, Chitipa United, Kawaza, Kabwafu, Mchengautuwa, Ekwendeni United and seeded Karonga United.

According to Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) fixture secretary Ollens Msonda, the first game will involve Chitipa United and Kaporo Stars at Chitipa Community ground.

On Sunday, April 2, Kabwafu will face Kawaza at their backyard while Mchengautuwa take on Ekwendeni United at Mchengautuwa ground.

Karonga United, will face the winners between Chitipa and Kaporo Stars in the semi-final clash.

“The winners between Kawaza and Kabwafu, Mchengautuwa and Ekwendeni United, will also qualify for the semi-finals,” said Msonda.

Champions are expected to receive K500 000 (about $738) while the runners-up will receive K250 000 (about $369).

Karonga United team manager Bellings Desire told The Nation on Monday that they are expecting nothing less than grabbing the championship.

“We expect tough competition considering that there are few teams in

the tournament. However, as 2015 Simama Premier League runners-up, we want to win the cup,” he said.

Mchengautuwa United chairperson David Katete has challenged that North Presidential Football Cup will be the first title his team will record in the 2016 season. n
