‘Beautify skin in winter’

Mornings and evenings are starting to get cold, a signal that winter is slowly unfolding. With all the skin care questions I receive, winter skin care should put a smile on your face!

Cold weather often spells disaster for our skin; it looks rough and chapped, feels tight and drawn. What should be one of your greatest assets becomes one of your biggest beauty problems. Extra care is needed for your skin during this season.

Steam your face once or twice a week to open pores and revitalise dull skin. Steaming can easily be done at home. Use a facial steamer or just soak a washcloth with steaming water, wring lightly and bring the cloth close to your face. Steam your face for at least 2 minutes.

You may also pour boiling water into a sink, lower your face into the steam and cover your head with a towel so that none of the steam escapes.

Application of various products only on the outer surface does not lead to an ultimate healthy skin. What you need is a healthy diet and peaceful mind. Your meals should have ample amount of juicy fruits and vegetables along with at least 8 glasses of water a day. Taking liquids will help your skin retain the essential oils automatically and acts as a natural protection against dryness.

Try a moisturising facial mask of avocado pear to restore skin damage from cold air. Applying facial mask once or twice a week will beat the cold, open up pores, clear blemishes and moisturise the skin.

It is crucial to moisturise your skin during the winter months. As soon as you get out of the shower, moisturise your face and body. Use a moisturiser that doesn’t have too much fragrance. Lotions like Aloe Vera, Cocoa Butter or vitamin E with SPF 15 will assist in protecting and softening premature wrinkles and dry skin.

Most make-up is hypo-allergenic and alcohol-free. However, there are still some products out there that have an alcohol base, which has a drying effect on the skin. Be sure to read ingredients when purchasing foundation, powder, concealer and the like.

Always wash your skin with lukewarm water; heat pulls the oils out of your skin, and you will find that having a beautiful skin during the winter months is not that difficult at all!
