Question:  Lucy, can you please tell me more about home remedies to help clear dark spots.   I am dark in complexion and would not want to lighten my skin; I would rather clear my spots which were caused due to acne. I have a wedding coming up soon and would greatly appreciate your help.

Answer: Who doesn’t want a smooth, clear and even complexion… especially on your wedding day!  The sad truth is, even with regular cleansing, some people still develop dark spots, also called hyper-pigmentation which are patches of dark skin that remain after pimples or bumps have disappeared.

Wash your face at least twice a day with a mild soap such as Cocoa Butter, Forever Living Aloe Vera Avocado Soap, Dove, Oxy or Clearasil Max products. Then use a toner of any brand appropriate for your skin type to open the pores and remove dirt left over during the cleansing process. Toner is used by applying on a clean cotton wool or soft cloth and rubbing on your face and neck gently.  Moisturiser is then used to help maintain the moisture content in your skin.  This process will prevent and reduce skin problems. It will also give you clean and glowing complexion.

Lemon juice is a natural dark spot, age spot, freckle and pimple fighter because of its skin lightening and antiseptic qualities. It can be coupled with parsley to improve its beneficial action.  Leave on skin for half an hour or can be used on skin overnight mixed with extra virgin olive oil.

Blend honey and yoghurt together to create natural bleach that will lighten dark spots faster.
