Listen to this article

Malawi has invited Interpol to lead in investigations into the death of fourth year Polytechnic engineering student Robert Chasowa who was found dead on campus last September under controversial circumstances.

Deputy commissioner of police Lexa Chalera, who heads the Malawi Police Service Criminal Investigations Department (CID), told The Nation in an exclusive interview on Tuesday that they have sought Interpol’s services to clear doubts some people may have on the role of the local police, some of whom were said to have interacted with Chasowa prior to his death

“There was a lot of finger-pointing regarding our participation on the matter, but getting investigators from Interpol would help to clear some misconceptions that surrounded the matter,” she said, indicating that the Interpol Regional Office in Harare, Zimbabwe, would dispatch an investigator anytime in the week.
