Listen to this article

We all love healthy and beautiful looking hair, but the changes in climate during the rainy season lead to a lot of hair related problems, hence the need for proper care to avoid unhealthy and undesirable locks.

Washing your hair two to three times a week will keep your hair clean and looking good. This also prevents excessive drying of hair.  Condition your hair with a good conditioner like Olive oil deep conditioner or Dark and Lovely moisturising conditioner after washing.  Use leave-in conditioner to make dry hair more manageable.

Excessive moisture affects your hair even if you remain indoors due to high humidity.  Depending on your hair type, it may leave your hair frizzy or flat.  Fine, wavy, curly hair tends to absorb more moisture in the air.  This makes fine or thin hair fall flat, but people with wavy or curly hair end up with frizzy strands.

The best solution is to use humidity protective gel before styling to help form a protective coat over the hair cuticle and prevent moisture getting in. Follow this with a non-sticky hair spray for extra protection.

During the rainy season, it is better to stick to alcohol-based creams and gels since rainy season period reduces metabolism rate which means our hair rarely grows.

Moreover, the changing climate also makes our hair look more dull and lifeless, therefore the need for regular hair care regime so you can bring life to your lifeless locks during the season.

It is also advisable not to have any kind of chemical treatment during this season since strong chemicals can create strip your hair of essential oils and make it even more lifeless.

Always remember to keep an umbrella with you whenever you go outside since rain water is known to negatively impact the health of your hair if not rinsed off and dried out. This results in more dandruff and scalp problems.

Avoid excess oil on hair during the rainy season.  If your hair is oily, rinse it with water mixed with a dash of lemon juice after washing with a mild shampoo.  Don’t comb your hair when it is wet; and don’t keep it wet for too long.

Make the most of your natural hair texture and work with styles that suit you.  Keeping your hair short, in ponytails or braids works best during this time!
