‘Keep your hands gorgeous this winter’

One of the most obvious reasons for cracked, chapped and sore winter hands is overexposure to cold weather. This winter, give your hands a much needed break; stop using harsh soaps on them, as these strip away moisture. Since your hands have very few oil glands, they can easily develop cracks. Try creamy bath gels as an alternative to soap and apply lots of moisturiser.

Every time you wash your hands or do some intense manual labour, massage them with vegetable oil or Vaseline.  Natural creams like coconut oil or shea butter work well in nourishing and moisturising skin of your hands. The same applies for unsalted butter mixed with some honey.

Soak your hands in a bowl of warm water to which 1 tsp of corn starch has been added for 5 minutes. Do this daily after finishing the household chores for smooth silky hands.

Mix 1 teaspoon of Glycerine, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and five drops of rose water. Rub this onto your hands every night.  This will keep them soft and prevent chapping.

Cucumbers are also known for their smoothening characteristics. Mash a cucumber and massage your hands with the mixture. Rinse after 10 minutes.

The most effective hand protection from winter elements, or when you are doing dishes, is to use gloves. Overexposure to both water and harsh chemicals in dishwashing liquids draw natural moisture and lubrication out of your hands.

Be gentle on your hands and they will look good!
