That is why, as they continually stay together, you will discover some similarities in their speech, actions and the way they respond to certain situations. They definitely become one flesh.
When this relationship is terminated by the doings of man, one or both of them suffer extensively inwardly; will always make comparisons with the one that has come to replace the other. One might shed tears openly or secretly.
As there is a destruction of plans made, some become angry and bitter with life, and can be generally confused. The spirit of jealousy can also arise when the other spouse gets involved with someone else. From the foregoing, there happens to be a destruction of the creation of God.
The last bit of the verse says; “Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate’’. This means that no one under the sun, inclusive of the man and woman in this union, has the power or authority to terminate the union of marriage, except by death.
Parents and relatives of those getting married should keep away from the union of marriage. The ideas, suggestions, plans and programmes you have should not be imposed on the newly-wed couple. Their autonomy should be respected, as they are a complete entity.
However, the newly-weds should have confidence that they can manage their family. They can and should seek advice from family.
When giving out advice, parents should not try to impose their suggestions on the newly-weds. Respect them as adults who are able to make decisions on their own and enjoy or suffer the consequences. This is not to say that parents should not offer advice when things are going wrong or the need arises, rather, when offering advice, do not present your word as the law.
Lastly, Hebrews 13: 4 says “marriage should be respected by all’’ and I therefore implore everyone not to indulge or tamper with the union of marriage with an intention of destroying it. Anyone who exalts himself/ herself above the word of God will meet with the wrath of God.
