‘Bring out your eyes with eye shadow techniques’

Listen to this article

Eyes give your face energy, excitement and individuality.  Skillful application of colour is essential, since eye make-up mistakes have a pronounced effect on your overall appearance.

When it comes to bringing out your facial features, eye shadow is perhaps the most beloved cosmetic of creative makeup artists unless you want to go under the knife.   Therefore, the trick to creating eyes that merit more than a second glance lives in the proper application of eye make-up.

Expertly blending eye-shadow on your lids is key to perfect make-up.  The colours should flow smoothly and harmoniously.  To do this, you will need a base colour, main colour, and  highlighter.  Apply the base colour on your eyelids first and then put on the main colour finally, highlight the crease of your eyes.

When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge.  If you get too close to the eye, you will end up with beady-looking eyes.

Using a primer before applying your eye shadow not only makes it smoother, it also keeps the shadow on longer.

Shimmer is great for bringing out the eyes, but be careful in laying it out as it can bring out not just the eyes, but also the lines and the wrinkles.   Apply a bit of gold shimmer to the brow-bone and you will look gorgeous!

Creating a smokey eye?  Keep colour to the lid and just under the lower lash-line.  Do not extend colour above the crease.

If you are going for dramatic red lips, cover unsightly blue lines on the lids with a concealer or shadow primer and  keep eye shadow light.  You don’t want to look like a clown with red lips and heavy eye shadow!
