‘Care givers need formal training’

Association of Early Childhood Development (AECDM) has said preschool care givers need formal training to understand childhood development.

AECDM executive director Charles Gwengwe said this at the graduation of 36 preschool care givers from different schools in Blantyre, Zomba and Lilongwe.

Gwengwe said the recent trend of mushrooming of nursery schools in the country forced AECDM to hold the training workshop to prepare the care givers understand all aspects of early childhood development.

“We discovered that others were being trained for three days and that was not enough to teach in nursery schools, but this training covers full syllabus for preschool care givers management.

“We are encouraging all preschool owners to train fully their care givers for the better future of the country,” he said.

Gwengwe said AECDM received overwhelming response from preschool owners for the comprehensive training.

Hyacinth Kulemeka, director of child development in the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare said Malawian should get fully preschool development.

“We have noted that most private preschools are running commercially and do services on their own way and it is government wish to train all care givers in private schools,” said Kulemeka.

Ivy Mphuwa, one of the participants from Namiwawa Private, said the training was an eye-opener on how child brain development takes place.
