‘Emphasise your body assets’

Listen to this article

Having a sense of your own style means wearing clothes that look right on you, clothes that feel right and are not given a second thought.  Fit becomes very important when you are overweight, even a mere five kilos. How then do you create height when you are short?

You can only add so many inches with high heels. It’s true they look great, are slimming, and make you feel taller; but they can also absolutely kill your feet if you are new to them.  Moreover, not everybody can wear high heels.  Some might be restricted due to health problems or poor posture.

Finding pants that make you look taller is easy. Long, wide-leg trousers lengthen legs.  Pinstripes and front creases are also flattering for those who could use a few more inches.

Short skirts will make all women look taller. They do not, however, have to be minis; just above the knee length works.  If you are “vertically challenged,” longer skirts will make you look like you are standing in a hole.

Empire-waist dresses lengthen your bottom half; try them above the knee length too!

Drop V-neck tops with vertical stripes create the look of a longer torso.  Long slim sweaters will also make you look longer.

Keep your jackets short and sweet, just where your hips start or cutting on the middle of your hips. Longer jackets will make you look shorter and heavier.

Recognise that clothes are a strong reflection of your personality. Give more critical considerations to how the garment looks on you, how it fits into your life style and, simply, how much you like it!
