Standard Bank marketing officer Tidzi Chalamba has said more customers might have opened accounts with the bank during the recent Standard Bank Knockout Trophy voting.

Chalamba said this on the sidelines of the trophy’s preliminary round draw following the end of the voting for the four teams to produce one that will join seeded seven clubs, including holders Blue Eagles.

“For the actual figures, we are yet to do the calculation as the voting has just ended. The fans will also be invited to vote for the venue of the finals. It will be within this month,” said Chalamba.

He stressed that the bank does not sponsor football for benefits, but it is part of its corporate social responsibility.

The preliminaries will start on August 11 involving Big Bullets, Red Lions, Azam Tigers and Blantyre United who garnered votes amounting to 4 126, 462, 458 and 351 respectively as of July 31 cut-off point.

Red Lions will roar against Big Bullets in Zomba whereas Azam Tigers will be on the prowl against Blantyre United. The winners will date each other for another dance in the second round slated for the weekend of August 18.
