Zanzi Nightclub on Friday greeted merrymakers with colours of traffic lights to mark the countdown to the oncoming Moon Rock Festival.

Wilderness Safaris Malawi (WSM) will hold the maiden festival at Chintheche Inn in the northern Malawi district of Nkhata Bay from October 12 to 15—a pilgrimage to the golden beaches of Lake Malawi like Lake of Stars Arts Festival which is on recess this year.

During the ‘traffic jam’ party at the Lilongwe hotspot, patrons were clad in colours reflecting their marital status—green for singles,  red for those taken and yellow for the unsure.

Best dressed lady Jane Kanyenda, heartthrob Dalitso Chitsinga and lucky customer Yamikani Chatsalira won free tickets to the three-day beach music party while the 50 earliest birds got free Carlsberg beer.

“The idea was to sell the event to fun-seekers as well as sponsors. For a start, we are happy with the turnout,” said WSM marketing coordinator Roshenka de Mel.

Kanyenda said he was looking forward to having fun at the festival to benefit WSM’s Children in the Wilderness Project which gives a home  to vulnerable wild animals.
