‘Will seek audience with JB for Queens’

Youth and Sports Minister Enock Chakufwa Chihana on Sunday said he will seek an audience for Queens with President Joyce Banda following their Africa Netball Championship triumph in Tanzania at the weekend.

The Queens won all their five games.

“I will be seeking an audience with Her Excellency when she returns from Mozambique so that they can present the trophy to her,” said Chihana.

He also promised to meet NAM leadership to hear their challenges.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) general secretary Hellene Mpinganjira and Queens captain Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira expressed gratitude to the minister for the pledge.

Said Mpinganjira: “As I said, the triumph is a special dedication to the State President for her support. The girls will be excited because that is what they are looking forward to.”

On her part, Mtukule-Ngwira said: “There would have been no better timely gift to the first female President than winning this tournament.”

The Queens beat minnows Lesotho 59-18 to win the continental showpiece at the National Stadium in Tanzania’s capital Dar es Salaam. They beat Zambia 56-33 in their opening game on Tuesday before defeating hosts Tanzania 34-30 on the same day.
