A father’s dilemma

Listen to this article

Today, I shall expound on last week’s topic, What to do with this love. A letter from a reader in reaction to the said article has exacerbated the need to show the seriousness of this love bug. For those who might have missed this piece, I wrote about the shock of very young children from the ages of five to, well, maybe 12 falling head over heels in love with their peers. It raised the question on how parents can deal with it and whether it would be prudent to ignore the trends with the hope that they may just go away with time.

I would like to share this reader’s concerns after reading a letter he found in his daughter’s exercise book. He wrote the letter from a concerned parent and I publish the 11-year-old’s letter for reactions from other readers. Father and daughter’s identities have been concealed as she is a minor.

On a different note, I wish inform Every Woman readers and in particular ardent followers of the Gears for Careers column by Vera Ng’oma that the column has come to an end because the author has other commitments she needs to attend to. Next week’s piece shall be her last. She has been with the supplement for six years and has greatly supported its inception to the level that it is at now. We have had a wonderful working relationship which was abuzz with brilliant ideas and with applaud her undue loyalty to a product I am sure she had been too proud to be associated with. Every Woman crew and indeed the entire staff of Nation on Sunday shall miss this noble woman’s wise contribution and career expertise. We wish you well Vera and hope to work together again in the future.
