It was a night of excitement, disbelief and confusion coupled with jeering as patrons witnessed the second eviction show of the E-Wallet singing challenge at Blantyre’s M-Theatre on Saturday night.

Relatives, including those who patronised the competition for the first time, were at pains to see their favourite contestants exiting the show despite putting gallant performances on the night.

This was the case as the contestants were voted out of the competition based on their performance in the previous shows.

It was even beyond the jurisdiction of the judges, who applauded most of the contestants for such a great room for improvement on the night.

Some of the contestants who impressed both the judges and the audience, included Eunice, whose rendition of the Queen classic I Want To Break Free instantly re-established her at a favourite.

She was lauded by judge Marvin Hanke, who described her as one of the great singers of the night.

His judgement was echoed by fellow judges Rudo Mkukupa-Chakwera and Dumisani Mfune.

Shannis also won the hearts of the judges and patrons with her passionate interpretation of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.

Jeremiah and Sigere both gave out full packages and utilised the stage.

Khumbo, who played Craig David’s Walking Away mesmerised fans with his singing ability and enchanting guitar skills.

Despite making slight improvements on the night, the judges had serious issues with Rita, whom they said lacked a ‘wow’ factor as she struggled to hit low notes on her performance of Take A Bow by Rihanna.

Kennedy and Kelvin received overwhelming response from the audience after performing Morgan Heritage’s I am Coming Home and Soul Provider by Romain Virgo, respectively.

At the end, Rita and Khumbo were booted out of the competition, letting the other six contestants to proceed to the semi finals slated for February 27 at Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe.

However, Khumbo’s eviction did not please fans if his electric performance on the night was anything to go by. But judges hinted that the eviction was based on his previous performance.
