A patriotic Malawian
I would heed the call by Vice-President Saulos Chilima to slow down on child births for the country to achieve meaningful socio-economic development.
If I were a Malawian who loves my country, I would take it upon myself to play a role to devise measures that can help the country tackle overpopulation and its effects.
Oh yes, I would appreciate that the responsibility to tackle the challenge not only rests in political, faith and traditional leaders but every citizen who has the good of the country at heart.
I would take it upon myself to sensitise my community such as churches, sporting events and cultural groupings on the need to uphold proper family planning methods.
I would realise that while children are a blessing, the act of manufacturing them should not be a hobby, rather we should bear children that we will be able to look after.
Yes, I would not hide behind the biblical verse that says ‘be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth,’ as a way of satisfying my sexual desires.
After all, the mission to fill the earth like sand does not rest on any single person.
Fortunately I am one of the patriotic Malawians.
