The children aged between four and 14, were left destitute and their mother’s whereabouts are not yet known.

She left the children with their step father, a Zambian Kesha Sakala who also deserted them and returned to his country.

According to Petro Thauzeni, the father of the two youngest children, the four-year old died after suffering from an unknown illness.

Thauzeni, who Patuma divorced in June this year, lives in Salima and came back to Mchinji after he heard on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s (MBC)Nkhani za m’maboma that the children had been abandoned by their mother.

“Patuma and I had two children, she divorced me in June and married a Zambian man and the Police Victim Unit advised us that the children should stay with their mother,” he said.

When Thauzeni came to Mchinji, he was informed that the children had been sent to the orphanage by the Social Welfare Department.

He said he is arranging to remove his other child and step-children from the orphanage.

Meanwhile reports say ‘Dr. Patuma’ was spotted at a bar in Chipata, Zambia. n
