According to Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) general secretary Chester Kayange, the tournament will run up to Sunday and has attracted 11 teams from all leagues except Mzuzu and Districts Darts League (MDDL).

This year’s competition promises fireworks as the sponsor Rashid Gaffar of Rashy Motors has increased sponsorship from K300 000 to K500 000.

Hosts Blantyre and Districts Darts League (BDDL) have contributed five teams, including defending champions HTD BSC. The others are MPCC, Staff Development Institute (SDI), Nali (formally called Luchenza), who have just landed new sponsorship from Nali Limited and Intosports.

The Lilongwe and Districts Darts League (LDDL) has two teams—Capital Glass from Lilongwe and Engineers from the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) camp in Kasungu.

Zomba and Districts Darts League (ZDDL) have Kobbe Stingers—another MDF sponsored team and Eagle Arrows from Zomba Police.

Engineers and SDI have also shown great potential. n
